Not all former footballers want their children go in for that kind of sports. But such problem did not exist it the Boiko family. Olexandr Boiko who became the USSR champion in 1980 and 1981 wanted to see his son Denys playing for the team in which he spent nine years…

Following his father

Football was important for Denys even before he went to school. “My parents took me to Dynamo football academy when I was six. Later I realized that my father was a good player and achieved a lot. So I wanted to achieve as much as he did or even more”.

Denys fell in love with football due to his father who is his biggest fan today. He is not angry with the head coach when his son is not the first team regular.

At first Denys was a midfielder, then defender but later he became a goalkeeper due to his height. “At first I was a half-back, but later my first coach Olexandr Leonidov said that being as tall as my father I could be a goalkeeper. Later our coach Vitalyi Khmelnytskyi said that it’s not easy to choose a keeper because all guys want to play with the ball. But I don’t regret anything”, - says Boyko-junior.

In 2005 Denys started playing for Dynamo-3 and Dynamo-2. In 2007/2008 season he also played for CSKA Kyiv.

In summer of 2009 Denys went on a loan move to FC Obolon Kyiv. The former Dynamo player Juryi Maxymov who was the coach of Obolon at that time made Boyko #1 keeper in his team. Denys made his debut in Premier league on July 19 2009 against Metalist Kharkiv (0:2). After that he played confidently during the whole season.

In the beginning of the way

On May 2010 Boyko made his debut for Dynamo. It was a home match against FC Metalurh Zaporizhya (3:0). But after that Denys made serious mistakes as the White-Blues faced Obolon (2:2) and Sheryf Tyraspol (0:2). So the new head coach Oleh Luzhnyi preferred young keeper Maxym Koval.

In June of 2011 Juryi Maxymov called Denys to Kryvbass FC. Boiko is very thankful for that. “Maxymov is a coach who believed in me and that is very important. I worked a lot and came back to my native club”.

In 2012 Boyko came back to Dynamo. “Now I’m in the beginning of my way, but I hope that later my father will be proud of me”.
