About the Academy

Dynamo Kyiv football academy named after Valeriy Lobanovsky

Built in the 1950s, Dynamo Kyiv football academy in Nyvky residential area of Kyiv has a long history and glorious traditions. It is there that Dynamo footballers honed their skills to become the first non-Moscow-based club to win the USSR championship.

Since then, the whole generations of far-famed club players got their football education under the careful guidance of proficient seasoned coaches in the children sports club. “The Dynamo Kyiv epoch” was securely and for centuries fixed in the national football by Volodymyr Muntyan, Oleh Blokhin, Oleksiy Mykhaylychenko. And with the new pages turned in the Ukrainian soccer history, the baton was passed over to Oleksandr Shovkovskiy, Serhiy Fedorov and great Andriy Shevchenko.

The late 90’s, however, saw the Nyvky training ground as one not meeting modern technical and facilities requirements. To provide the youngsters with efficient and thorough training and education, the club management came to a decision to build a new European-level school.

Within a brief period of time, the modern complex was constructed, which now makes an integral part of the general club infrastructure. The completely renewed 4-storey building covers an area of as many as 3,500 sq.m. and is made up out of four spacious dressing-rooms with massage parlours, a sauna, swimming pool, lounge and aid station on the bottom floor. As you go further up to the first floor you will find a canteen with a huge dining hall, an audio/video classroom and a gym. The second and third floors lodge 20 rooms (850 sq.m.) that can accommodate 54 young sportsmen at a time.

They learn to play their favourite game on one grass and one synthetic standard-sized, electrically-heated pitches. The audience can watch them play from a 300-seater roofed grandstand. Also, youngsters can warm up and train on the cinder hockey-sized grounds. All the pitches are equipped with a modern illumination system and fully meet international requirements.

Annually, 1,500 kids take a comprehensive football course in the new “old” Nyvky practice ground. Here they are provided with sufficient conditions to fulfil their great football dreams. Naturally, not all of them will make it to the Dynamo first squad. But an important thing here is they will all be strong, healthy and “football conscious”.

The official opening ceremony of the children football school training complex took place on October 2, 2003. Ukraine’s President Leonid Kuchma along with the President of the FC Dynamo Kyiv Ihor Surkis cut a ribbon on the door of the newly constructed training ground.

Other honorary event attendees included Kyiv mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko, UFF (Ukrainian Football Federation) President Hryhoriy Surkis, national team head coach Oleh Blokhin, Dynamo football players of different times: Yevhen Rudakov, Andriy Bal, Vitaliy Khmelnytskyi, Mykhaylo Koman, Jozhef Sabo, Andriy Shepel and others.

The first entry in the honorary guests Golden Book was made by Ukraine’s President Leonid Kuchma: “Taking care of the rising generation is a good and necessary thing to do. Those taking care of our kids shape the future. Dynamo Kyiv sets an inspiring example here: the boys are surely to add new Blokhins and Shevchenkos to our football elite and to bring glory to our country.”
