Andriy HUSIN: sunny player from Dynamo stellar cast of 1990s (+ VIDEO)

Speaking about Husin-player one should keep in mind Husin-person. He was a great master on the pitch and extraordinary personality, family man, talented coach…

From queen to king

Andriy’s parents Leonid and Valentyna are masters of sports in athletics. Husin’s father was teaching PT and mother became his coach in athletics school, where he worked to achieve success in “queen of sports”.

For some time Andriy was going both in for athletics and football at FC Karpaty Lviv school. He was very enthusiastic and wanted to have more than just three training sessions a week. Eventually he made his final decision if favour of “his majesty” football.

Anyway entering Lviv Sports University Husin had athletics as special field. He was a very responsible student.

In summer of 1992 the 19-year-old blond joined FC Karpaty Lviv main squad. He made his debut for the team in the game against FC Nyva Ternopil. Young forward made a substitute appearance in the second half and scored brace.

Per aspera ad astra

Approximately at that period of time Husin met his future wife Khrystyna. She was a dancer and entered Kyiv Virskyi choreographic studio, but decided to stay in Lviv with Andriy. Meanwhile the fame of Karpaty talented forward reached Moscow and soon he got a transfer offer from Konstantin Beskov, who worked for FC Asmaral. Still Husin didn’t join Moscow side. At the same time FC Dynamo Kyiv insisted on transfer of talented striker. Andriy and Khrystyna agreed to such changes in life with optimism.

Oleh Bazylevych, who was in charge of Ukraine national team, called Andriy Husin up to the friendly against Croatia. On June 26 1993 he made his debut for the Yellow-Blues.

Ukraine lost 1:3, but Andriy took the field after the break and scored.

In the club Andriy featured mostly for Dynamo-2. Adaptation to Kyiv was difficult for him. At that time Khrystyna helped him a lot. A bit later he proposed to her and she answered “Finally!”.

In 1994/95 season Husin became the Ukrainian First League top finisher with 22 goals to his name. The following season he performed for FC CSCA-Borysfen on loan and netted 12 goals.

Meanwhile Valeriy Lobanovskyi returned to Kyiv to take charge of Dynamo.

The most important game

The majority of players, who featured under the charge of Lobanovskyi, can say that work with maestro became the turning point in their careers. As for Andriy Husin, the return of Valeriy Vasyliovych became a true explosion in his life.

Volodymyr Onyshchenko, who was in charge of Dynamo-2, had claims for supporting midfielders, so once Andriy asked the coach to let him feature at this position. Later he called that game the most important one in his career. He played confidently and even hit the target with the fabulous shot. Valeriy Lobanovskyi, who was present at that match told his assistants: “That’s our supporting midfielder!”. It was admission to the main squad.

Aborted takeoff

On April 6 1997 Andriy Husin made his first appearance for FC Dynamo Kyiv as the White-Blues defeated FC Nyva Vinnytsia – 2:0. In the following eight years it was hardly possible to imagine Dynamo midfield without the tall blond halfback. Guided by the “Iron Colonel” the team turned into a star and Husin’s play corresponded Kyivans’ perfect team actions.

Due to his endurance and motivation Andriy easily covered great distance on the pitch. He was ubiquitous. He was good at head-playing and joined attacks effectively.

Tactical skills and uncompromising stand made him one of the best supporting midfielders in Europe. He could shut the air supply to any opponent.

Husin also played a lot of memorable matches for Ukraine national team, but the most significant one is away victory against Greece in 2006 World Cup qualification. The game was exhausting, but 82 minutes into the match Andriy obtained the ball in the midfield, rushed to the goal and hit the target.

After the end of his career Husin started coaching.

Andriy Husin had a lot of plans to put into life, but on September 17 he didn’t reach the finish line on his bike…

We invite everyone to Andriy Husin memorial match (dedicated also to Andriy Bal and Valentyn Belkevych), which will take place on September 28 at 15:00 at Dynamo Stadium named after Valeriy Lobanovskyi.
