Ihor SURKIS: “It’s interesting to see what our worth is opposing such team as Chelsea”

FC Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis has commented upon the Europa League round of 16 drawing.

As you know, at this stage our team will face Chelsea FC.

- I’m totally okay with such drawing. We’ve got very famous opponent. It’s interesting to see what our worth is opposing such team as Chelsea. We always aim to perform in the Champions League. Well, Chelsea are the Champions League level team. We’re making headway. I don’t see anything terrible about the drawing. It’s very important to keep the intrigue alive till the game in Kyiv. If we do that, we’ll have chances to outplay Chelsea. I believe in our guys and I think they’re also optimistic.

- Dynamo faced Chelsea several years ago. Will that experience help our team?

- That year we drew against London side 0:0 at home and lost 1:2 away. Now we have two-match duel. No one wants to stop at this stage, so I think it will be an interesting battle, especially for Dynamo.

- Buialskyi, Harmash and Sydorchuk, who participated in those games, are still on the team. Will their experience be beneficial for Dynamo?

- The team doesn’t consist of two or three players. We have great atmosphere in the team. Oleh Luzhnyi used to perform in England and he’ll tell us how to perform, especially away. There’re no invincible opponents. We have a good young team. I’m sure our guys will do their best to show what they’re capable of. On top of everything else, it’s a great commercial for them. If they want to play in top leagues one day, they must demonstrate worthy football now.

- Chelsea are fighting for the Champions League zone. Is it good for Dynamo?

- When teams reach this stage, they don’t care about circumstances. Chelsea have a great lineup, so we don’t know who’ll perform against us. First of all we must focus on our play. I’m optimistic about forthcoming games and I hope fans believe in our team too.

- Is it good that Dynamo will play the first leg away?

- Sure, if you play the second leg at home it’s a kind of advantage. If the first leg isn’t a failure, a lot of fans will come to support us at home. By the way, once again I’d like to thank our fans for incredible support at the game against Olympiacos.

- Benjamin Verbic won’t take the field in the first leg…

- That’s a loss. Shabanov did well against Olympiacos, but I hope Kadar will recover soon. It’s good when there’s competition inside a team. I don’t know what our lineup will be. I guess we’ll use Sidcley or Tsytaishvili on the left wing. As for me, we should all believe we can go through this barrier.
