Serhiy FEDOROV – sincere Kyivan with virile character (+ VIDEO)

Boys from Kyiv, who decide to go in for football, have a wide range of schools to train at.

When a kid Serhiy Fedorov chose FC Dynamo Kyiv – the club he’s already dedicated 30 years of his life to.

Long way to glory

The White-Blues and Ukraine national team defender went through every stage of football education at DynamoAcademy. At that period of time he got acquainted with his future colleague Yuriy Yeskin.

In 1992 Fedorov joined Dynamo-2 and was one of the key players of the team. In March of 1994 he made his debut for the main squad as Kyivans defeated SC Tavria Simferopol 4:2. It should be mentioned that Olexandr Shovkovskyi was keeping Dynamo goal in that game.

Still after that debut Serhiy spent one more season featuring for the reserve team. Later he performed for FC CSCA Kyiv. Only in 1997/98 season Fedorov made one appearance for FC Dynamo Kyiv main squad again.

Anyway he made his contribution into Kyivans’ 1998/99 euro cups success, when they reached the Champions League semifinal. Fedorov took the filed in two games Dynamo won 2:1.

Fedorov’s career was gaining momentum gradually. Head-playing skills helped him score important goals. In 1999 he put Ukraine national team kit on for the first time.

Serhiy’s achievements include six UPL golden medals, four national cups and Order For Courage of the Third Class, but still he didn’t reach one of the main aims in football life – to take part in the World Cup…

Give him the kit, but without boots…

Before the 2006 World Cup Fedorov picked up a very serious injury in the match against FC Shakhtar Donetsk. That actually meant the finish of his career.

“Before the World Cup in Germany Ukraine played a friendly at the NSC Olimpiyskyi. After the game I came to the locker room and Oleh Blokhin said: “Fedorov is going to the World Cup. Give him the kit, but without boots”. Such attitude helped me to overcome that stroke of fate”, - recalls Serhiy.

In spring of 2009 34-year-old defender joined FC Chornomorets Odesa, but in his first game for the new team Fedorov suffered heel tendon tear.

Formally Serhiy’s last club was FC Zirka Kirovohrad. In 2010 he even joined the coaching staff of this team.

Many ex-players don’t know what to do at the parting of the ways. Serhiy took a crack at business, but he usually relied on his partners in this area. He got more time for one of his hobbies – painting.

Anyway Fedorov still was willing to return to elite sport. One day DynamoAcademy head coach Olexandr Ishchenko called Serhiy and offered him the job at his Alma Mater.

Graduation with golden medal and invitation to the first team

At first Serhiy was the assistant of Yuriy Yeskin. Later he was in charge of the group of players born in 1997 together with Serhiy Bezhenar. In 2013 their team won the Ukrainian National Youth Competition (U-16). Later many performers from that squad joined Dynamo U-19 and even U-21.

The following year Fedorov’s trainees became DynamoAcademy graduates, but their coach had to leave the team. Why? Because he joined the White-Blues main squad!

Fedorov works a lot with defenders sharing his experience. When Oleh Blokhin left Kyivans in April of 2014 Serhiy remained Serhiy Rebrov’s assistant coach.

Serhiy Fedorov advances his skills constantly. In 2014 he got the UEFA PRO diploma.
