Andriy YARMOLENKO: “Dynamo will always be in my heart”

After FC Dynamo Kyiv former forward Andriy Yarmolenko signed a contract with Borussia Dortmund he talked to journalist of our site to say goodbye to fans and to thank our club:

- I have conflicting emotions. I feel joy as I dreamed of such transfer, but I also feel a slight disappointment as I have to say goodbye to my family. I can call Dynamo this way.

I’d like to thank president of the club Ihor Surkis and Hryhoriy Surkis. They’ve kept their promise. Ihor Surkis used to say: “Your time will come and you’ll play for European top-club”. That’s happened. One should listen to older people (smiling).

I’m thankful to every coach I used to work with. I’ve learned something from all of them. I’ll never forget what they’ve done for me.

I’d like to thank all my teammates. They’ve all become my second family as I’ve spent so much time with them. Thank you! It was an honor for me to be their captain.

I’m thankful to our doctors, massage therapists and all the medical staff, who cared about my health. I’m thankful to the training complex staff: cooks, kitchen workers, and people getting training fields ready. They provided great training conditions which helped me make headway.

I’ll miss our fans. I played for them and I value their support. I’ll cherish good memories of them.

- Will you keep in touch with former teammates and follow Dynamo performances?

- Sure, Dynamo will always be in my heart. I’ll try not to miss a single game. I’m sure the team has future without me. Dynamo have a lot of talented youngsters that can replace me.

- What are your first impressions of the new cub? Have you already talked to the head coach?
- They greeted me incredibly. I realize how serious this club is. I’ve talked to head coach, but unfortunately I haven’t seen my new teammates yet.

- Do you like the Bundesliga? What do you think of Borussia?

- This is one of the best leagues in the world. It will be interesting to see what my true worth is playing alongside such performers as Borussia have.

- Isn’t it great you have a chance to face Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League?
- I just want to take the field wearing Borussia shirt as soon as possible and feel atmosphere of the stadium. I’m really looking forward to that.

- What are your plans for the next several days?

- I’ll join Ukraine national team. We’ll play on September 2 and 5. Coach said I must come back on September 6, but I asked him for one more day off to come to Dynamo training complex and say goodbye to players and staff. I really appreciate he’s allowed me to do that. So, on September 7 I’ll come to Dortmund to join Borussia.

- Germany isn’t too far from Ukraine. How often will you come to Kyiv?

- (Smiling) My friends and former teammates stay in Ukraine. I don’t say goodbye forever. I’ll keep in touch with them and come to Kyiv when I have a chance. On the other hand, at the moment I must adapt to new team and study German. For at least half a year I’ll focus on training sessions and new language. I think player must speak the language of the country he comes to.

- Will you take your family with you?

- Sure. How can I leave them? I guess they’ll also face some difficulties, but we’ll cope with everything together.
